Re Bach and Handel, it's interesting that Bach, the more popular one, is the one who looks away from the modern galant style, whose music is more complicated and more dissonant. That may say something about high baroque style - I'm putting Handel in the same bracket as Purcell and Corelli and Rameau. Consider, for example, the “peasant stomp of the B Minor Mass, as opposed to Handel’s wispy angels which disappear into the ether.” This earthy element to Bach’s epic spirituality is “a Scene from the movie in which Handel is invited to take part in a competition with the famous composer Domenico Scarlatti. Bach does not hesitate to submit his choral polyphony to an instrumental standard. In the flexibility of his choral idiom, Handel surpasses Bach in the same measure as Bach surpasses Handel in contrapuntal consistency. In his instrumental music, Handel shares the Italian conservatism and hardly goes beyond Corelli so far as form is concerned.

Today, an odd connection between Bach and Handel. The University of Houston's College of Engineering presents this series about the machines that make our civilization run, and the people whose ingenuity created them.

But they also probably believed some of the pomp and promotion of Taylor, and thought the odds of any success were higher than they actually were. Handel bach

Bach uses very dense contrapuntal texture with complex and  regarded as quite secondary, such as Scarlatti's keyboard music and Handel's suites for orchestra, is standard fare today.

In fact, they were born only about 80 miles apart -- Bach in the small state of Thuringia, and Handel in nearby Saxony. Bach came out of a strong Protestant choral tradition. Handel became a celebrated operatic composer as well as the composer responsible for creating the enormously popular oratorio, The Messiah. Bach was the great master of the polyphonic form, a fugal genius and Handel a melodist of immense power and sensitivity. 18th century favouritism for Bach over Handel shaped popular perceptions of the two great composers.

Handel lived out his life but went completely blind at the end, the last music he ever heard being his own Messiah at his death on April 14, 1759. Bach was not so lucky. He died July 20, 1750 from septicemia induced by the procedure. Eyeballs were not the only thing Bach and Handel had in common.

In the summer of 1713 he lived at Mr Matthew Andrews' estate in Barn Elms, Surrey where he received a yearly income of £200 from Queen Anne. If you look at a map of Germany, this region is just within the northern half of the country.

Gardiner reckons Bach’s own tussles with faith, explored through the music, make his sacred pieces less didactic, less doctrinaire than others. Consider, for example, the “peasant stomp of the B JS Bach unlike Handel came from a long line of established musicians. He was born in 1685 in Eisenach, Germany the son of Johan Ambrosius Bach, also a fine musician.
